Sandburg Volleyball Efficient in Sweep of Spoon River

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team had one of its most efficient offensive nights of the season in sweeping Spoon River 25-16, 25-14, 25-18 on Friday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.

The Chargers (17-10) hit .323 as a team — their fourth-highest mark this year — as they won their fourth in a row and for the sixth time in seven matches.

Gracie Rademacker (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central) had a team-best 13 kills and recorded a .423 hitting percentage in addition to serving three of Sandburg’s 11 aces and picking up nine digs. Carley Reeves-Eakins (Branson, Mo./Reeds Spring) had 10 kills for the Chargers. Freshmen Lauren Erke (Quincy, Ill./Quincy) and Jadyn Swan (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) each added seven kills, with Swan hitting .545 on 11 attacks.

Setter Carmyn Baldwin (Lewistown, Ill./Lewistown) had 36 assists, and libero Jasmin McDaniel (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) had a team-best 15 digs and three aces. Megan Crome (Marshall, Ill./Marshall) also had three aces and recorded three blocks.

Sandburg trailed for a total of five points in the match against the Snappers (9-12). The Chargers closed with eight of the final 10 points in the first set. They took a commanding 20-9 lead in the second on the strength of an 8-1 stretch and grabbed a 23-12 lead in the third behind an 8-0 run that included McDaniel’s three aces.
